Each year, FSU’s Information Technology Services Team creates a ‘Cybersecurity Awareness’ campaign. The theme for the 2018 Campaign was focused around collegiate football - hence, the Cyber Bowl Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign. Each year’s campaign includes the creation of design assets that will be utilized amongst print and web, in addition to the creation of an online quiz.
I was challenged to create the ‘short term identity’ for the campaign. I was also in charge of doing visual research and creating the visual style for the campaign, as that would impact the design aesthetic of the online quiz.
When we met with Information Technology Services Team, I was asked to create a brand identity that felt ‘collegiate‘, evoked thoughts of ‘college football’ while connecting the Florida State University brand to it.
With all of that in mind, I created a couple of sketches of a short term identity, before creating one that felt appropriate. I came up with a icon that used iconic Florida State icons (such as the Westcott Building and Palm Trees beside it as background elements, while a football player appeared front and center.
The client wanted to have supporting imagery that was direct in evoking the feeling of ‘college football’. With that in mind, I created a duotone image featuring a shot of Doak Campbell Stadium and it became one of the main supporting images across the various design pieces.
The short-term identity that was created for the campaign was then applied across various mediums, including internal web banners, screen displays across the university, yard signs, a retractable banner and even amongst a small promo item. Here are a few examples.
